WordPress is considered as one of the most famous and popular website. The website blog has benefited many users. This site is very easy to install. The site is very user friendly and any beginner can easily understand the website. But sometimes many users face a problem in loading the website. The problem lies in the fact that when any user install WordPress then instead of installing the website in the root directory, the user install it in the sub directory of the system.
Here in this article we will guide you that how you can delete WordPress from the sub directory and move it into the root directory.
If your website is free of content then an easy way to move it into the root directory is to delete the website form the sub directory and then re install it in the root directory. However, if you have data on your site then you need to move the website.
For this purpose first log in into your website. Here go to settings. Now click on general. Here on this page you will be asked to enter the website URL and WordPress URL. Here in the site address enter the URL that points your root domain. Now save changes.
Now connect to your WordPress site s FTP client. Here go to WordPress directory and download the htaccess and index.php file on your desktop.
If the htaccess file is not visible to you then click on enable the hidden files option. If you are a filezilla user then on the icon server click on force show hidden files.
After downloading open the index file in notepad. Here you will see a line like this
require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' );
Now replace this line with the below mentioned line
require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php' );
Save changes and now as an FTP client upload these files on your domain. Now your website is installed in the root directory
